More About Me...

My transition from a hobby to a career in music began in 2014, in a gap year where I completed a Live Sound & Tour Management Diploma with Distinction at BIMM Manchester. Instead of this just being a gap year I decided to continue and progress into the music industry. I achieved a first class BA Hons in Music Business and started to seek out as much practical experience as possible along the way.

Much of my early career progressed alongside studying. I started out working festivals and events such as Liverpool Sound City, Bluedot Festval & Warehouse Project in various production assistant and tech capacities. As the university was in its first intake year, I was given a lot of opportunities often involving responsibilities of running their events such as student gigs, masterclasses with high profile guests, inductions and other promotional events. This progressed to roles with BIMM at Glastonbury, YNOT & Leeds festival as part of a small team running a stage for BIMM.

Towards the end of my time at BIMM I then started to manage the production of young acts starting out in their careers. Rory Wynne (managed by SJM) was one early example, who I tour managed supporting Blossoms on the 2017 NME tour, around many academy sized venues. I also began working with Phoebe Green.

During my earlier career I found more time for performing myself, working with Oli Ng to independently tour manage and play a UK & EU tour that was made up of over 15 dates and spanned the UK, Belgium, Germany & Holland.

With young bands starting out it draws on a number of skills and can be extremely challenging. In this role I have been requied to advance tours, often work as the only member of crew who with the help of the band has the responsibility of tour managing, driving, backline teching and mixing off the shoulder of in house sound engineers. It relies on having a wide range of knowledge and abilities in order to support the band in as many ways possible often on a tight budget. With Phoebe Green I’ve had the pleasure of working on shows supporting  Courteeners, Miles Kane, Mac Demarco, Sundara Karma & Swim Deep. Across some amazing venues such as Manchester Arena & Barrowlands, spanning the width & breadth of the UK.

More recently I’ve worked with established acts such as Icicle Works, headlining O2 Academy sized venues around the UK. This has drawn on other skills such as managing musicians and crew some more than double my age as well as getting hands on where needed with tech, production & logistics.

Work for BIMM has continued to this day, since graduating I have been employed as a freelance professional by BIMM Group for my expertise on a wide range of events. One role at BIMM that I take great pride in was being employed to consult on and aid in the preparation of the BIMM Birmingham campus in anticipation for it’s opening. Since then I've worked closely with BIMM Birmingham on the production of Open Days, Gigs & Masterclasses. I have also covered as the Marketing & Promotional Events interim manager at the beginning of 2019, whilst the current manager took a short sabbatical.

Whilst completing these freelance roles its be great to progress into the Bigfish Rentals team, starting out as a freelancer mainly driving to deliver and collect equipment, through to becoming employed at the company and involved in many facets. I now have responsibilities spanning across the business, from maintaining equipment, managing inventory, quoting on jobs, liaising with clients, managing social media and teching on site at festivals and shows. With this my knowledge and ability has grown significantly from technical knowledge of the equipment, to people skills and managing business relationships.

During my freelance career I’ve also been in house FOH Tech at Matt & Phreds, played bass for multiple musical projects and consulted on the production of a number of events.
